Mumbai starts constructing $4B underground metro system

A $4 billion underground metro system is under construction in the Indian city of Mumbai, home to 18 million people. The system will help alleviate dangerous congestion — stretching some 30 kilometres into the suburbs — but has environmentalists concerned about the future impact it will have on Indigenous communities. The metro is expected to be complete by December 2021.
