A man accused of being one of the most elusive serial killers in American history, known as the 'Golden State killer', is on suicide watch after appearing in a US court for the first time. Nearly 32 years after Joseph Deangelo's rampage ended, police arrested the 72-year-old in California on the basis of genetic information that led detectives to match a discarded DNA sample from his home to evidence from the investigation. Police allege he is the killer behind 12 deaths and at least 50 rapes in California from 1974 through 1986.
