Heavy snowfall has caused major travel disruption across the UK, causing dozens of stranded motorists to be pulled from snow drifts and many British roads to partially or completely close. Yellow and amber weather warnings have been issued for northern and north- eastern areas, with warnings snow could cut off some isolated communities and disrupt power supplies. Many flights to and from Manchester and other northern airports have been cancelled.
