Scrapping presidential term limits ‘a reminder of Mao’

Former Foreign Minister Bob Carr has told Sky News that many people in China are concerned about President Xi Jinping's decision to scrap presidential term limits, which opens the way for the Chinese leader to govern indefinitely. On Sunday, the Chinese Communist Party proposed changing the country’s constitution to allow President Xi to remain in power beyond his scheduled departure in 2023, a measure that is expected to be adopted. Mr Carr says for many Chinese, an uncapped presidential term is a 'reminder of Mao's misrule.'
