Pope Francis encourages day of fasting for worldwide peace

Pope Francis has invited Roman Catholics and members of all other religions to observe a day of fasting for peace on February 23. Speaking to tens of thousands of people in St. Peter's Square, the Pontiff condemned the 'tragic prolonging' of conflicts around the world. During the Christian season of Lent fasting is encouraged as a sign of penitence.
